Thank you to the people with kind words. :-) My husband said if there are people interested in seeing some larger pics and descriptions of the work done to make it we will try and put up a page for that on the site soon. If you are interested please pm me and I will try and get that done.
Now to go put the asura down to nap and take "Gwen" out to play in the yard. First thing she did this morning was put her costume on. *L* She's running around the house going "Superhero!"

All the entries were pretty nice. Seeing the one of the GW skills that made a pumpkin makes me regret not thinking about sending something in for the art contest since I suck at making costumes/carving pumpkins, but I'm okay at photoshop stuff like that.
Congrats to all the winners (especially those who get a panda/kanaxai in addition to just having their submission posted on the website, hawt)!

Halloween Contest complaining
Yea i know it's not my place to complain about who wins, and arena net is the one giving the stuff away, but i am going to anyway because I am in a bad mode because i did badly on an exam yesterday. to start it off let's have a look at the judging guidelines "Entries will be judged on the basis of creativity, style, and the melding of Halloween into a Guild Wars theme." Apparently it was ok to completely disregard this or have a pumkin randomly thrown in(hardly melded<-idc if that's a word or not) That came off pretty bitter anyway, if u want to see my piece, check it out
and tell me what u think. and i promise to never complain about the makers of a game ever again, it makes me feel like a dumbass

First, we will hold you to the non-compliant clause of your statement. I suggest Anet flag your account and do a regular query to see if you violate it. LOL
Second, your piece was original.
Third, how many people do you think entered? I think the GW staff did a fine job judging with the mass influx of entries they received. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Lastly, prepare for closure since you have no real question here just a whine.

Your pic is very nice ^^
I do kinda agree with what you said though. 2 Winners are a bit off; Nikki Perlot and Noanoa. Just a "look at me I wear Guild Wars clothing" entry.
The other winners, however, have rightfully won imo.

An art contest is an art contest. They recieved a lot of entries so they would have been judged on spur-of-the-moment. The Judges have their own tastes, so what ? Did the best piece of art win ? Probobly not, Im sure their were alot of good entries that should have won and personally I dont like the number 1 entry. But its a contest. Who cares. We cant expect anet to grade each individual entry as if they were professional art critics. Contests like this are supposed to be for fun.
IMO: http://www.guildwars.com/events/cont...7/winner09.php
should have been the winner.

In before close. +1.
I like your pic, it should have at least placed me thinks. A few people vehemently defended their costuming as an art form yesterday, most people thought it was cheesy sucking up.

I understand the OP's point, but personally, I cant see how even having just a costume has nothing to do with Halloween. That's one of the main things about Halloween from the US perspective, respecting other points of view internationally. I dont think the contest necessarily was meaning to say there needed to be a pumpkin in every entry etc.

Congratulations to all of the winners! The entries were fantastic this year (clearly, so much so that extra prizes were added!) and I don't envy the judges... at least they didn't have to rank everything into individual places...
(And thank you for some of your comments about my entry I have to say, I would have never attempted Rt Imperial in human scale.. ~25 hours for 1:3 scale was bad enough... )

If anyone cares, here's my submission. I got a finalist award for it, so I'm not too sad. I started about three days before the deadline, and this is the first wallpaper I've made, so I'm happy. And yes, the bottom is messed up. I had to expand the image and I didn't know what to put there...Copy-Paste ftw, haha...and I know, it's not that original.

Yeah, I wasn't going to complain but I thought I should at least get an honorable mention I guess they should call it the GW costume contest so we're all clear on it.
I think I attached my picture lol not sure. It's a cantha scene with master togo outside a building, and frostmaw with a couple wurm larvae, one is dressed as a snowman and one as a black moa, I thought it was pretty good, took a lot of time to get the righ screenies and put it all together in photoshop since I can't draw or sew...

Also, it is difficult in some cases to translate the concept of original art. The western ideal of original is very different than the eastern. I remember when a Korean instructor was starting on his third column of words we were to use to make original sentences. We had only been in class a couple weeks and did not know many words or grammar structures and he wanted original sentences for each. We, all being American, gasped at trying to be original with so little to work with. To him, being original didn't have anything to do with being Unique/separate/different from everybody elses. We were told in the Orient, if you copy someone's painting it is still your original work/copy and a compliment to the maker of the piece you copied.
That being said, I do think some entries were not completely original in the Western sense of judging art. Inclusion of backdrops, etc. may have been seen as too close to plagiarism (even if they were not) to qualify. I also entered, but I had no expectation of placing or winning anything - I just did it for fun. What I entered did not fully meet the requirements as listed, I created a focus item skin that was Halloween based, using a squash blossom as its inspiration. I did not do a great job in the mixed media - but it has been 25 years since I tried any. So, clearly I was not a contender to begin with. The contest called for cookies, cakes, costumes, etc. Traditional, or classical art, was not really emphasized for this contest at all - and I am surprised any of such placed.
Personal favorite? I like the Minipets, sorry. A Maltese Monk just has to kick ass and take names.
